This day in History: 9 January in 2005, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and National Congress Party (NCP) signed the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) that brought to an end a longest civil war in Africa. The agreement established within the CPA focused on the key areas such as security arrangements, regional boundaries, sharing of the revenue from the oil in the south, among other things. The CPA also paved seven years path toward an autonomous southern Sudan and in 2011, South Sudan seceded from Sudan to be an independent Nation today.
