REPOST from Ning Hua@Facebook – 13 JULY 2019
(Ning Hua, the People’s Republic of China Ambassador to Republic of South Sudan)
On Wednesday, I drove 50 km to the construction site of Juba-Rumbek highway to see myself the progress of the project. I saw workers are building the main camp and flatting the surface of the old road. So far, the contractor, Shandong Hi-Speed company has already sent in more than 40 engineers and 20 machineries for the project.
Over the past 8 years, the company has been using its own expenditure on conducting the feasibility study, environmental and social impact assessment, engineering survey and investigation, as well as the preliminary and detail design of the project. While the company is working hard on the construction, it is also busily engaged in emergency works to repair the washout caused by floods.
The lack of sound infrastructure is a main obstacle to growth and development of South Sudan. As the major project planned by the government after the signing of R-ARCSS, the Juba-Rumbek highway bears the great expectation of South Sudanese people. To ensure the smooth completion of the road, all the stakeholders need to work together to create an enabling environment for the project . It is not an ordinary road, but a road to peace and development.
As the Chinese saying goes, “Building the road is the first step to become prosperous”.
Thank you Mr. Ambassador!
Thank you China!
